School-Aged Yoga Program

This engaging yoga class program offers a unique blend of physical activity, mindfulness, and self-discovery. Participants will explore a variety of yoga postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation exercises tailored to their developmental needs. Each session encourages flexibility, strength, and balance while promoting mental focus and emotional resilience. Through fun and interactive activities, students will learn how to manage stress, enhance their concentration, and develop a positive body image.

Poses become more challenging incorporating twisting, oppositions, balancing and holding poses for longer lengths of time. Poses begin to have more of a focus on alignment and strengthening while incorporating mindfulness. Different forms of yoga are explored and introduced allowing for diverse first experience into yoga.

Real-life connections will be woven into the curriculum, enabling learners to understand the relevance of yoga principles in their daily lives. Through guided instruction and supportive peer interaction, participants will develop a greater appreciation for their bodies and minds, fostering a sense of confidence and self-awareness.

Class Structure

Class Length: 30-45 minutes

Introduction: Theme, class structure and expectations are introduced.

Breath Work: Breath work is taught and then we aim for 1-2 minutes of introduced breath-work.

Warmup: Engaging full body warmup, and Sun Salutations are taught and practiced during this time.

Poses & Games: During this portion, poses relating to class theme are executed as well as any related cooperation yoga related games are played during this time.

Cool Down: Seated and reclined poses to calm the class down preparing for savasana.

Savasana & Meditation: Children are asked to sit in silence/meditation for 2-3 minutes, challenging them to sit with emotions.

Goodbye: Final encouraging words are said, mats are cleaned up, Goodbye until next time.

  • Yoga offers numerous benefits for teenagers, both physical and mental. Its structured poses, controlled breathing, and meditation techniques help improve strength, flexibility, and balance. In addition, yoga can reduce stress and anxiety levels, enhance focus and concentration, and promote better sleep quality. For teens facing academic pressures, social challenges, or peer pressures, yoga offers a safe space to unwind, release tension, and connect with their inner selves.

  • To make a teen yoga class fun, it is essential to incorporate elements that cater to their interests and energy levels. Popular music that resonates with teenagers is used. Classes may included partner yoga poses to encourage teamwork, trust-building, and a sense of community among the teens in the class. Themes and Challenges are practiced for each session to keep the teens interested and motivated. And, Games are integrated such as yoga relay races or yoga pose competitions to add a playful element to the practice.

Theme

Self Love: Affirmation are utilized during the class to promote self love, and aid in overcoming negative self talk and image. This class aims on physical strength and building positive self talk.

Friendship: A class of fun and giggles, group poses and partner poses are performed during this class, allowing for new bonds, strengthened, connections and memories to be made.

Power Yoga: Give children an opportunity to challenge their physical abilities and build strength. A popular class for this age group. Strengthening poses are the core of power yoga allowing for a fun new workout followed by a super calming meditation.
