High School Dance Program
The High School Dance Program is a comprehensive and structured curriculum designed to cultivate students' artistic expression and technical proficiency in various dance forms. This program offers an inclusive environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and personal growth through movement.
Students will explore a diverse range of dance styles, including ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, providing a well-rounded foundation in both classical and modern techniques. Through training and practice, students will develop core skills such as body awareness, coordination, rhythm, and performance artistry.
In addition to technical instruction, the program emphasizes the importance of choreography, allowing students to engage in the creative process by developing their own dance pieces. Theoretical components, encompassing dance history, anatomy, and the study of influential choreographers, will further enrich students' understanding of the art form.
Dance background is not required for this program.
Class Structure
Class length: 20-45 minutes
Introduction: Class structure and expectations are reviewed and put in place.
Warmup: Songs Students love are used to grab their attention from the begging while fun and dynamic stretches are completed to minimize injury.
Dance Steps: Movement and dance steps are completed during this part of class. Children’s gross motor development is challenged with news moves.
Freestyle/Improvisation: Students are encouraged to show their dance moves and skills, partaking in freestyle/improve at the end of class, building confidence, self-expression and adaptability.
Cool Down: Class has a small cool down minimal stretching, to regulate and allow for an easier transition to the next class.
Goodbye: Props are cleaned up, encouraging words are said. Good-bye until next time

To make dance fun for children, it is important to incorporate elements that engage and excite them. Aage-appropriate music that is catchy and energetic is used to create a fun atmosphere. Games are incorporated as well as props to make the dance session interactive and entertaining. A variety of dance styles and movements to keep children interested and challenged are incorporated. And students are encouraged to be creative by allowing children to freestyle and express themselves through dance.
